The Land Use Planning & Zoning Office is responsible for the following administrative responsibilities:
- Administration of the Community’s “Homesite Ordinance” which allows Community members to receive a lot with a 50-year lease on which to have a home.
- Administration and enforcement of the “Subdivision Ordinance”• Administration and enforcement of the “Sign Ordinance”• Administration and enforcement of the “Native Plant Ordinance”
- Administration and enforcement of the “Right-of-Entry” requests (in conjunction with the Natural Resources Standing Committee)
- Administration and enforcement of the “Livestock Ordinance”
- Administration and enforcement of the “Archeological Ordinance”
- Administration and enforcement of the “Interim Zoning Ordinance” (aka the adopted North Central Planning Area Plan)
- Administration and enforcement of the “General Land Use Plan” (as adopted in 1985)
- Provide staff support for the Planning and Zoning Commission
- Administration and implementation of the Community’s Geographical Information Systems (GIS) program and standards
- Administration and implementation of land parcel surveying for all land parcels, subdivisions, and other development in the Community; charged with providing surveying services for Tribal departments,
e.g.:
Department of Community Housing: Boundary surveys for homesites- tribal and allotted lands, preparation of exhibits and legal descriptions for easements and rights-of-way
Pima-Maricopa Irrigation Project: Rights-of-way surveys, boundary surveys, cadastral surveys, topographic mapping for design
Tribal Projects: Boundary surveys, topographic surveys, preparation of exhibits and legal descriptions for easements and rights-of-way
Department of Public Works: Boundary surveys, topographic surveys, preparation of exhibits and legal descriptions for easements and rights-of-way Department of Transportation: cadastral surveys, control surveys
Department of Environmental Quality: Monitor well surveys, boundary surveys, preparation of exhibits and legal descriptions for well sites
Gila River Telecommunications: Boundary surveys, construction staking, preparation of exhibits and legal descriptions for easements and rights-of-way oversight of all surveying being performed in the Community by outside consultants requiring the review and acceptance of the final surveys to ensure compliance with the surveying minimum standards being utilized by the Community. LUPZ approved in April 2005 as the official repository for all survey records and data for the Community.
