Department Description:

The Gila River Indian Community Fire Department and divisions provide the following services and training:

Fire Department Operations Division provides emergency response and mitigation to calls for service from the public. These services include fire suppression services for wild land, structure, and vehicle fires, emergency medical services in partnership and support of Gila River EMS, hazardous materials mitigation, vehicle lockout, search and rescue operations, animal control incidents such as snake removal and swarming bees, and various forms of public assistance services whenever called upon.


Training Division provides Public Education training in CPR and First Aid, portable fire extinguisher training, and fire prevention and fire safety education, as well as Apprentice or Recruit Firefighter training, Engine and Ladder Company training, Company Officer training, and Chief Officer training.

Fire Prevention Division provides Fire and Life Safety code compliance services including code research, plan review, construction inspections, and annual occupancy inspections.

Administrative Division provides all of the necessary support functions for the other Divisions, including planning, budgeting, policy and procedure development, station and facility maintenance and repair, apparatus maintenance and repair, communications and technology (computers and networking) support, maintenance and repair, and tools and equipment maintenance and repair.
