The Executive Branch

The power of the Executive Branch is vested in the Governor of the Gila River Indian Community, who also acts as head of state. The Governor is responsible for implementing and enforcing the laws written by Community Council and, to that end, appoints the heads of the Tribal agencies. The Lieutenant is also part of the Executive Branch, ready to assume the Presidency should the need arise. The Community Council and independent Tribal agencies are responsible for the day-to-day enforcement and administration of federal laws. The Executive Branch employs more than 2,000 employees.
