Christine Murphy among a select field of nominees was the committee’s choice for April’s Governor’s Employee of the Month. Christine is our esteemed Employee Benefits Administrator at the Insurance Office. Anyone of us who has ever needed information with our insurance benefits has likely been assisted by Ms. Murphy with her ever caring, courteous and thorough manner.

Christine began her employment at Gila River with the Payroll department in 2002. She later moved to the Human Resources Department before assuming her current position at Insurance.Ms Murphy’s weighty responsibilities there include oversight of the Public Safety Pension for all Fire and Law Enforcement employees, she serves on the Board of Trustees for employee benefits, oversees FML, reviews financials relating to our insurance benefits and evaluates our health plans to ensure we have the best coverage for the dollar. As a result of her steady attention and dedication, Gila River is reported to have one of the finest health plans in Arizona.

Ms. Murphy’s outstanding achievements are no less confined to her insurance duties. For the past two years until completion, Ms. Murphy’s role in the implementation of a new payroll and Human Resources database system took on extensive research, training and inter-departmental coordination. In an additional role in the implementation of the new ADP timekeeping system, it is reported that Ms. Murphy helped save over $1 million in man hours and other cumbersome timing keeping activities. Ms. Murphy’s late hours and weekends to plan and coordinate the multifaceted activities of this project saw a successful and time-saving transition to the new ADP system.

With the entirety of all the above, Ms. Murphy still has found time to manage and organize the sizable annual GRIC health fair bringing much in the way of health education and services to our employees. Still another undertaking is her organization of the annual health benefit enrollment servicing our more than 2000 GRIC employees.

Christine Murphy is a long-time resident of Ahwautukee, moving there from southern California. She will celebrate 22 years of marriage this year and has four grown children that include her husband’s son. Ms. Murphy enjoys gardening, reading, cooking and has a passion for camping.
