Thank you from former Marine stationed in Hawaii

Hello and Good morning,

I just wanted to first say thank you to you and all of your staff who contribute to GRIN. I was active duty in the Marine Corps for eight years and was stationed in various places in the U.S. and abroad. My last duty station was here in Hawaii at the Kaneohe Marine Corps Base. Since my end of active service I decided to stay here to complete my psychology and criminal justice bachelors degrees. It is such wonderful feeling to be able to keep up with the news and events back home. Getting the GRIN paper in the mail and reading it online was always a great pleasure and made me feel like I was back home for a few moments.

As I was reading online this morning, I came across the article about the Matthew B. Juan statue being vandalized. It is sad that graffiti vandalizing is such a huge problem on the reservation. My mothers fence in Sacaton, of course, was a victim of this crime several times. It was very frustrating and often disgusting to have to constantly clean it or paint over the graffiti. I am sure that a lot of people in the community who have been victimized by this offense or see it on public or private property also feel the frustration, anger and disgust.

As many of the articles do in the GRIN, they bring out emotion and opinion from the community. What I am suggesting is some sort of response section at the bottom of the articles. Such as CNN or other news sites have. I believe it will be a good way to give the people a voice to the events, social issues, and news that occurs on the reservation. Would this be possible to maybe add to the website in the future?

Thank you for taking the time to read my email and again, for the wonderful effort and work you and all of the staff there at GRIN do. Have a great weekend and take care.
