Alexander Brown and José Montes share a solo in “Edelweiss” on May, 16, 2012.
The families of the students gathered in the St. Peter Mission Church to enjoy the youngster’s performance.
Students of all grade levels from Kindergarten through 8th participated. The children performed such memorable tunes as “How Much Is That Doggie In The Window?”, “Cielito Lindo”, “So Long, Farewell” and, of course, the concert’s titular numbers.
Several of the songs featured solo performances. Eighth grader Rachel Kyyitan sang the solo part of the ever-inspiring “Climb Every Mountain”. Alexander Brown and José Montes, both in the fifth grade, bravely stepped up at the last minute as soloists in “Edelweiss”; they filled in for their classmate who unfortunately fell ill the day before the concert and could not attend.
Orchestrated by the school’s music and art instructor, Mrs. Gillian Tevlin, the concert lasted over an hour and the robust applause from the audience confirmed that all the students’ hard work made for a wonderful success.
