The Department of Transportation (formerly under the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Roads Department) was transferred to the tribal authority and responsibility under PL 93-638 as established by Gila River Indian Community Council Resolution GR-77-97. Department of Transportation Mission Statement:
The Department of Transportation desires to development, implement, operate, and maintain a cost effective, integrated transportation network. This network of existing and future facilities will provide safe and efficient access for the movement of persons, and goods within and through the Community. This network will foster and support current and future land and economic development while protecting the natural, cultural, and traditional environment.
