The Department of Transportation (formerly under the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Roads Department) was transferred to the tribal authority and responsibility under PL 93-638 as established by Gila River Indian Community Council Resolution GR-77-97.  The following divisions of the tribal Department of Transportation are:

Department Description:

Land Use Planning and Zoning (LUPZ) consists of six sections which provide the following services. The Administrative section provides support services and assistance to departments and Community members. The GIS and Planning section provides physical addresses for residences and tribal departments, as well as land use reviews and land assignments. The livestock and Ordinance section providesnative plant reviews, assists Community members with livestock rekated issues and enforces applicable Community Codes. The Subdivision section helps with home site assignments and beneficiary changes for the home sites. The Survey department provides boudary and topographic surveys for lands within the exterior boudary of the Reservation. Finally, Flood Control provides drainage reviews and assists with flood related mitigation measures.

VISION STATEMENT

To promote the use of Inspection services to ensure no unsafe conditions exist that would endanger the public. To ensure that all employees of the Building Safety Division demonstrate integrity, honesty, fairness in all transactions and constantly strive for excellence in all matters of ethical conduct. All employees of Building Safety Division are expected to maintain professional competence in all areas of employment responsibility and encourage the same for all associates at all levels. All employees of Building Safety are to accept no personal favors for public serves rendered and conscientiously avoid all circumstances that could compromise professional integrity.

PLAN REVIEW PROCESS

Currently Gila River Building Safety does not offer in house plan review services. Once the applicant is ready to begin plan submittal to Building Safety, submittal documents must be reviewed and approved for code compliance from a third party vendor of the applicants choice.
